Solution Focussed Coaching
Solution Focussed Coaching is a powerful technique that takes you from you where you are now to where you want to be. This form of coaching can bring significant results in the fastest time by clarifying goals, past successes, what is holding you back now and the next steps you need to take. Although this sounds simple it is the process of working with a coach that unpacks all the key elements and makes things happen. When was last time you properly sat down with someone and assessed where you are in your life? Do you know what is holding you back? Have you experienced the benefit of working with someone who is totally committed to your success? If not, then coaching may be for you, especially if you want to move things forward quickly. Key questions that are focussed on over a number of sessions include:
1. Where are you now?
For each of the key areas of your life – career, finances, relationships, health, spiritual – how happy are you? What are the positives, what do you need to work on, how would you score each of these out of 10? An open an honest assessment can be a very positive catalyst for action.
2. Where do you want to be?
Specifically, what are your goals against each of these areas? How will you know when you have met these goals? Are you aiming high enough? What would you really want if money was no object?
3. Are there limiting beliefs holding you back?
A lot of what holds us back is our own beliefs as to our own capability and what is possible. But everything in life you see around you has happened as a result of pushing through such beliefs. Things are possible, you are more capable than you know.
4. What are your options?
You may have more options, support and resources than you are first aware of. Without setting goals our minds can discount things or not notice them as things which can help take us forward. Who are all the people that can help you, what have you done in the past that was similar? What similar success can you build on? What would you do if you knew you couldn’t fail?
5. Committing to action
Commitment to action sounds easy, but ideas can get stuck at the level of ideas and initial small steps are sometimes not taken. Working with a coach in this area can bring huge benefit as discussing and committing to weekly actions with a coach brings a greater level of accountability. With the accountability comes progress and with progress comes a sense of achievement that drives further action.
6. Reviewing progress
Regular high level reviews are a necessary part of this process. If one course of action is bringing slow progress then another course of action may be better. As progress is made goals can change. As we develop as people our values can change.
